Frequently Asked Questions
how does it work?
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It allows people to skip the numerous middle men and buy directly from the famer. It’s like a farmers market that delivers.
Why is a CSA a good idea?
In today’s world, when you buy produce from the grocery store you have no idea where it came from and who grew it. A CSA lets you develop a relationship with the people who grow the food your family eats. CSAs are a great way for small family farms to continue to make a living, and for consumers, it cuts down on needless transportation from the farm to all the many stops before it reaches your family.
How is shopping at a CSA different from a grocery store?
Since our main goal is freshness, we try to get the produce from the field to you in 48 hours. In the traditional grocery store the produce goes from the farm to the processing plant to storage to wholesaler to distribution center and finally the grocery store. It’ s no wonder some grocery stores brag about inspecting their produce five to six times that just means five to six days of it just sitting around.
Where does the produce come from?
While a majority of the fruits come from our family’s organic farm in Reedley, we will be getting some of the produce from other family farmers we have befriended over the past eighteen years in doing farmers markets around the state. All the farmers we choose to work with practice sustainable agriculture. This allows them to work the earth without taking too much from it.
What do you offer?
We will only offer California grown produce that is in season. That means no peaches in December - sorry.
What comes in a box?
Now this is what sets our CSA apart from the rest. You get to decide what goes into your own box. Each Box will hold 10 units of produce that you get to pick. So what is a unit? A unit will be a predetermined amount of a product; for example, a unit of Organic Peaches would be 1.5 pounds of yellow or white peaches. A unit of Organic Mixed Salad Greens is one third of a pound. And a unit of Organic Oranges is 5 pounds.
Can I get more than one unit of a product?
YES, you can get up to 10 units of a single product if you want. For example, 10 units of Mixed Salad Greens would be 3.3 pounds, or you can get 4 units of Organic Peaches, 3 units of Organic Mixed Salad Greens and 3 units of Organic Oranges. That would come to 6 pounds of Organic Peaches, 1 pound Organic Mixed Salad Greens and 15 pounds of Organic Oranges. Mix and match all you like - that's the beauty of our service.
When will I get my box?
The boxes will be delivered once a week on Thursdays in the Fresno/Clovis area, and on Mondays in the Visalia area.
When does my order have to be in?
The deadline for all orders is on Friday at midnight for Thursday deliveries, and Tuesday at midnight for Monday deliveries.
Do I have to order every week, and what happens if I forget to order?
Order every week? NO, but you will receive an order every week. You can set it up one week and leave it alone and get the same order every week. Or every week, you can log in to your account and change your order to get something different. The choice is up to you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Can I do a special order and how?
Yes, for special orders, please just send us an email with a phone number where you can be reached.
Where will you deliver to?
If you live or work in the Fresno, Clovis, Visalia, Handford, or Lemoore area, we will deliver to you. While we would prefer delivering to your work (in order to make more than one delivery at a time), we will also be able to deliver to your home, if you so prefer.
How much does it cost?
If you order and pay week to week, the cost is $35 a week, but when you purchase more than 4 weeks at a time, the cost will drop to $30 a week. This will get you 1 box every week that holds 10 units of produce. We also offer a bi-weekly option which is also $30 a delivery.
Can I get more or less than ten units?
More? YES, just email us and we will contact you to arrange the bigger box. Unfortunately, right now, a 10 unit box is the smallest we can offer. It is possible that in the future, we will be able to offer smaller boxes.
What if I am not satisfied with the quality of the produce?
All products come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are ever unhappy with the quality of an item, let us know and the next week you will receive an extra item for free.
Will the produce come from packing houses?
No. Everything will be what is called field run, meaning that it goes from the field to the consumer without being sorted, sized, and with no stickers. The most that will happen to some produce on the way straight from the field to your home is washing.
